Mahindra Scorpio N -the big daddy of SUV

The new Mahindra Scorpio N is almost here! As Mahindra likes to call it, the big daddy of SUVs gets all-new looks and new engines from the Thar and the XUV700. It will have some new features to keep it tuned with the times. The new Scorpio-N will be launched on June 27 and co-exist with the current-gen model, called the Scorpio Classic. 2022 Scorpio-N prices are expected between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh.

Mahindra is going to launch the third-gen Scorpio on June 27. The date comes very near the 20th anniversary of the SUV, which first made its debut on June 20, 2002. The nameplate is one of the oldest running ones in India today. 

The 2022 Scorpio will get a complete generation upgrade, which will give it a completely new look and a redesigned cabin. It will be offered in six and seven-seater configurations. 

The new Scorpio will gain many features, including full LED lighting, an electric sunroof, dual-zone climate control, roof-mounted speakers, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech, and cruise control. Safety features will include a 360-degree camera, multiple airbags, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC), and hill start/descent control.

For real SUV fans, the ladder-frame design is still the preferred option. With sophisticated yet butch style, the Scorpio has been carrying on the history of old-school appeal. Mahindra says the new-gen avatar leaps ahead with an all-new ladder-frame chassis. As a result, the new Scorpio-N is likely to perform better at a crash test facility.

Powering the SUV will be 2.2-liter diesel and 2.0-liter turbo-petrol options, which can be teamed with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. The diesel engine will offer multiple tunings (185PS for the higher variants), while the 200PS turbo-petrol could be a standard offering. There will be an optional 4WD with a low-range gearbox for both engines.

Price of Mahindra Scorpio-N in 2022

As of the present, the Mahindra Scorpio-N has no direct competitors. However, prospective purchasers of cars like the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, and Tata Safari will keep the Scorpio-N in mind. Prices for the entry-level petrol trim are expected to start around Rs 12 lakh ex-showroom. The top-of-the-line model’s price could reach Rs 20 lakh ex-showroom.

The new Scorpio is expected to retail from around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be an alternative to the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Nissan Kicks, Kia Seltos, and the Volkswagen Taigun when it comes to pricing…
